CNC Toolmaker – Lenasia – #BE20250012


Location: Must be willing to work in Lenasia – Gauteng
Reports to: Toolroom Head of Department
Accountable to: Operations Manager

Role Overview:
Our client is looking for a talented CNC Toolmaker to diagnose, repair, and modify moulds and tools, as well as design and manufacture new moulds as needed. You’ll support the Toolroom Head of Department by managing staff, planning workflows, and optimizing efficiency in the Toolroom.

  • Must have experience in plastic injection moulding. Experience in Thin wall packaging is preferred.
  • Candidate must be willing to work shifts, weekends, etc
  • Candidate must not have a restrict of trade

Hours:

  • Shift Roster: Mon-Fri 07:00–17:00, alternate Saturdays 08:00–13:00, Sundays as required
  • On-call availability for breakdowns, including weekends and public holidays

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC machines, ensuring proper cutter selection and minimal idle time
  • Maintain cutting tool stock and manage mould maintenance, repairs, and modifications (planned and breakdown)
  • Attend mould startups, ensuring quality meets QC standards
  • Perform tool inspections during production runs (e.g., clean shut-off faces, check screws, grease wear pads, inspect ejector couplings, monitor mould temperature)
  • Conduct thorough mould maintenance between runs (e.g., strip moulds, replace o-rings, repair hot runners, lubricate moving parts, test air valves and water systems)
  • Respond promptly to production stoppages (e.g., heater faults, water leaks, broken screws, flashing, venting issues)
  • Maintain injection moulded product quality, addressing issues like burn marks, uneven filling, or failed functionality tests (drop tests, lid fitment, etc.)
  • Operate conventional machines (lathes, milling machines, grinders, spark eroders, etc.) and organize raw materials and tools
  • Keep work areas and machines clean, with monthly machine cleaning and annual servicing
  • Provide expertise on product and mould design, assist with customer complaints, and perform root cause analysis
  • Train staff, meet department objectives, and maintain the Toolroom Mandate

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Identify safety concerns and perform spot checks on manufactured items
  • Record reports, handle shift handovers, and assist other departments as needed
  • Uphold health and safety standards

Key Performance Areas:

  • Complete work on schedule and within deadlines
  • Track job costs, maintain mould history records, and update job cards in Shopware
  • Manage cutter stock levels and minimize repetitive mould breakdowns (max 1 per month)
  • Ensure moulds are production-ready when needed

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficient in CNC programming (Edgecam) and operation
  • Skilled in 2D/3D design or CAD software
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong planning and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and decision-making skills
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or in diverse teams
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices
  • Basic math skills and a strong work ethic

Remuneration:

  • R 35 000 – CTC
